I’ve got a fairly broad background, and enjoy giving talks and lectures on a variety of topics, including:

  • Science and engineering
  • Intersection of Technology and Society
  • Academia
  • Social media, blogging, and digital life
  • Writing, MFA programs, and self-publishing

As an example, here’s a resources page for the presentation on becoming a professional writer titled How Sausage Is Made: Becoming a Professional Writer I gave at the University of Southern Maine.

If you’d like me to give a talk to your group, organization, or group, please contact me.

Testimonials

"Kendall Giles came to this presentation not only having done research, but having already applied much of what he was discussed to his own writing life. As such he was able to provide deep insights into the modern publishing industry from his semester as an intern in a major literary agency in New York. He discussed subjects ranging from how books are picked up by agents and sold to publishers to how to create a solid schedule for writing and how to build a platform that will garner attention and increase your chances of making it. He was prepared, he added levity to the presentation, and he was confident in his delivery."

"Kendall is humorous, keeping me engaged during the lecture. He shared his personal journey of becoming a professional writer and gained first-hand knowledge by interning at a publishing/agent house in New York. Kendall used technology to make the lecture available online (additional content) after the presentation, further engaging his audience. The presentation (on PowerPoint) was well-developed, clear, and organized."
"Kendall's presentation was professional, informative, and entertaining. He illustrated his talk with a stellar powerpoint presentation and delivered valuable information about the publishing industry that was current, pertinent, and useful. He was poised and approachable, and in charge of his talk and his material. A delight."
"Kendall's sense of humor and empathy shone through as he delineated the common condition of writers trying to find their place in the publishing maze. He would make a wonderful teacher at any level (and, I suspect, a fine agent!)."

"Kendall struck this perfect balance between humor and seriousness. The topic at hand is very serious, and that came across, but he managed the information with wonderful wit and lightness. The information was also very well organized and easily digested. "
"His energy and passion were high, he was funny, organized and very detail oriented. Kendall is a marvelous teacher, and I just hope that teaching is part of his professional path!"
"Kendall’s presentation was wonderful! I learned so much! Everything I wanted to know (or didn’t even know I needed to know) but wasn’t sure how to articulate was presented to me in a clear, user-friendly manner. "
