The Makita XSL06PT 18V x2 LXT Lithium-Ion (36V) Brushless Cordless 10" Dual-Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw with Laser Kit (5.0Ah) is a solid battery powered miter saw as capable as their version powered with an electric cord. The saw comes with two 18-volt lithium ion batteries and charger–both batteries are needed to power the saw. In use the batteries lasted a long time–I was able to make hundreds of cuts before needing a recharge. One thing I appreciated was that after I completed my first project, I left the batteries charged but idle for weeks. When I got back to it, the batteries had not noticeably discharged and the saw worked flawlessly. The fact that this saw is cordless means you can make repairs literally out in the field, such as repairing fencing or at new construction sites. The saw also comes with a 10" blade. There are a lot of features with the saw, though a few stand out. The steel rail sliding system works great and allows you to work in restricted spaces (eg near a wall). The saw is very accurate. The dust collection ports work well though the saw does come with a dust bag. The saw miters 0-60° left and right, and bevels 0-48° left and right.
The Makita XSL06PT 18V x2 LXT Lithium-Ion (36V) Brushless Cordless 10" Dual-Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw with Laser Kit (5.0Ah) might be overkill for the average homeowner but it is a great addition for most carpenters and woodworkers. I do recommend a sturdy stand for it as the saw is fairly substantial in weight (about 60 pounds). I should point out that the safety trigger is designed for use with your right hand. Overall, I’m happy with the saw, which I purchased because I needed to fix oak fencing which had fallen down because a tree had hit it. It was pretty far from the house, and I didn’t want to drag heavy oak around. This saw was moved easily to the job site. Love the cordless version–it’s a great saw.
