Samson Go Mic Mobile Wireless Lavalier Mic: What Comes in the Box

The Samson Go Mic Mobile Wireless Lavalier Mic is a lavalier wireless microphone complete system that comes with a receiver and accessories to connect to a variety of devices. In the box comes the lavalier mic, receiver, connecting cables, charging cable, charging brick, US and EU AC adapters, shoe mount adapter, 1/4"–20 Tripod Adapter, hook and loop adhesives, and a manual. Included cables are a USB-micro to Lightning cable, a USB-micro to USB-micro cable, a USB-micro to USB-C cable, and a 1/8" (3.5mm) to 1/8" (3.5mm) audio cable, allowing you to connect the receiver to iOS device, Android device, DSLR camera, mixer, or any device with a 3.5mm analog input.

The lavalier microphone itself comes with an alligator clip so you can attach the mic to your lapel or shirt, a foam ball windscreen, cable, and transmitter with belt-clip. The length of the cable is about 45 inches and attaches to the transmitter with a mini-XLR connector. The transmitter connects wirelessly (2.4 GHz) to the receiver and is powered by two AA alkaline batteries (not included) that last for about 20 hours. The transmitter includes a power/pair button and an LED status indicator. The lavalier mic has an omnidirectional polar pattern, which means this mic does not reject background noise. Unfortunately the foam windscreen easily comes off the mic.

You can remove the front cover of the transmitter to reveal the battery compartment. Removing the front cover also reveals the mic gain control–the supplied plastic screwdriver can raise or lower the input level, though the factory preset was perfect for me.

Samson Go Mic Mobile Wireless Lavalier Mic: Receiver

The receiver is powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery (included) and is charged by the included AC brick and cable via the USB-mini port. The receiver battery life allows for seven to thirteen hours depending on use. The receiver can connect to a phone or camera body device via two mounting arms which can clamp onto the device and are held in place with a locking screw adjustment on the face of the receiver. The receiver face also includes:

  • A power/pair button
  • A volume control to adjust the level of the audio signal sent to the receiver’s digital and analog outputs
  • A switch to direct the receiver audio output to be either mixed mono or split left and right
  • Channel connection LED indicators
  • A battery level indicator
  • A power indicator
  • An analog output switch.

The analog output switch is used for connecting to a smartphone’s headset input or for connecting the receiver to a camera, mixer, or set of headphones (the receiver can be paired with up to two transmitters). The side of the receiver contains a USB-micro audio output jack, a 3.5mm analog output jack, and a USB-mini charging port.

Samson Go Mic Mobile Wireless Lavalier Mic: Receiver Attached to iPhone

I easily attached the receiver to my iPhone and was able to record audio and video with the lavalier mic. When standing near the receiver the audio captured by the mic was very clear with no recording lag. The manual says the range of the wireless mic is about 100 feet, line of sight. However, if I moved maybe 30 feet away from the receiver and behind two walls, the audio with the lavalier mic completely cut out, whereas when the same test was done with Samson’s handheld Go Mic instead of the lavalier mic, the audio was recorded perfectly. Overall this microphone system allows you to capture high quality audio as long as you remain line of sight near the receiver and in a quiet environment. However, if you are at a conference or event with a lot of background noise, unless your goal is to record that background noise you may want to consider instead the Samson Go Mic Wireless Handheld–that mic uses the same receiver as the lavalier mic but has better background noise rejection. In fact, you can pair two mics to one receiver–two lavalier mics, two handheld mics, or one of each.
