Canon EOS Rebel SL1 with Rode mic and pancake lens 600

Slowly but surely I’ve been learning more about photography and shooting video. It’s something I enjoy doing, and I’m always trying out new techniques, with the goal of telling a more compelling story. So with that goal, I’m excited to unbox the new Canon EOS Rebel SL1 18.0 MP CMOS DSLR Camera.

I had been using the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF2 12 MP Micro Four-Thirds Interchangeable Lens Digital Camera, which is a compact, mirrorless camera that packs in many of the features of the larger DSLRs.

With the 20mm f/1.7 pancake lens this camera was great for taking quality pictures while on travel.

And while the Lumix also makes great videos, I wanted something even more expressive like the Canon EOS cameras, but the big, bulky EOS body styles kept me balking.

However, with the new Canon EOS Rebel SL1 18.0 MP CMOS DSLR Camera, I think I just might have found the best of both worlds.

At the time of this post, the Canon SL1 is the smallest and lightest DSLR, featuring an 18 MP CMOS sensor and DIGIC 5 image processor. It also offers high-speed continuous shooting and full HD movies. The deal maker was the fact that this small DSLR is compatible with all EF and EF-S Canon lenses.

So, I’m now plunging into the Canon EOS Rebel world with the SL1.

I ordered the body-only camera, the Canon EF 40mm pancake lens, and the Rode VideoMic Pro Shotgun Microphone.
