Each evening at a Stonecoast residency is devoted to enrichment and learning across all genres of expression. One of the evenings is devoted to the “Stonecoast Follies,” a showcase of the amazing talent of the faculty and students who make Stonecoast such an amazing experience. The Stonecoast Follies is legendary, and this year’s show was amazing.

Let me be clear: these folks are writers by day, talents extraordinaire by night.

My pictures do not do justice to the effort and talent and brilliance exhibited by everyone who sang, danced, cooked (two faculty members demonstrated making guacamole), joked, acted, played instruments, and otherwise entertained an enthusiastic and appreciative audience.

The lighting was poor and the action fast, so many of my images were too blurred to post, but the best of the images I have are below. I’ll include the names of the faculty who performed.

Enjoy!

For some reason, every semester someone (or some group) performs Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah. Here it is, with bubbles:

A member of the audience (on the left) was so enthused by the performance of Hallelujah that his filming of the band got a little up-close and personal with the band:

A soulful tune by Boman Desai:

An amazing guitarist and singer:

This guy did an amazing kung fu demonstration:

In fact, he moved so fast, my camera could not keep up:

Here’s the Stonecoast Kitchen Band, with Debra Marquart and Michael Kimball:

This lady played an amazing cello. In fact she also played in many of the performances throughout the evening:

A great acting performance:

This was the infamous firedance by Kazim Ali. In the picture it seems like the lights were on, but actually the room was pitch dark, and Kazim performed his dance in total blackness, whirling two lit candles in a dance that was hypnotic and quite impressive. I feel bad that I took this photo, because to get it I had to put the flash on (and possibly blinding Kazim while he danced with fire):

A wonderful song about a bear:

The audience was blown away:

That’s it. There were many more performances that I wasn’t able to capture, or that I did capture but did not post due to too much blur.

So, congratulations and thank you to everyone who showed their amazing talents as a part of the Stonecoast Follies!

(Also, in case you are interested, here’s a post I wrote about the brief break we had half-way through the Stonecoast residency.)
