miele vacuum cleaner

Okay, some might think it a little strange to get excited about a vacuum cleaner. Perhaps. Nevertheless, I have to admit that this Miele Polaris Canister Vacuum Cleaner has won me over.

Up until now, I’ve always hated vacuum cleaners. You know, the ones you buy at the local mall-mart. I’ve had to buy a lot of those clunkers over the years because they never worked very well and typically broke in some way or another after just a few years of service. The mall-mart vacuums also made a lot of noise, were heavy, and were a torment to use. And then their rubber belts would break, string would get wound around the beater, and dirt would get spread around again when removing the bag. Even our pets would scurry for cover whenever the mall-mart vacuums were turned on.

But when I tried a Miele my perspective on vacuum cleaners changed.

When I pulled the Miele from its boxed, as an engineer I immediately appreciated the quality of the German design. And then when I turned it on, I was amazed – it was quiet! I knew I’d found a winner when even my cats didn’t run for cover while I vacuumed.

This vacuum really does a great job at, well, vacuuming, especially pet fur. It comes with three attachments to clip onto the hose in addition to the large telescoping stainless steel wand – a crevice tool, an upholstery tool, and a dusting brush. Even better, the vacuum also has a suction power dial with settings for drapes, furniture, throw-rugs, carpet, and bare floor.

The lightweight canister design is very easy to maneuver – the wheels work very well and so the little vacuum just follows you around without much thought or effort on your part.

The bags are easy to replace when full and the air filter prevents any dust from being blown back into the room.

When done, a button push automatically retracts the cord and the unit even sits upright for efficient storage.

It’s just a great, well-designed, quiet vacuum that I expect will give me years of trouble-free use – well worth the price.
