On a recent trip to South Carolina, where it’s warm in October, I spied a small lizard creeping around on the second floor of an apartment building. The lizard watched something from his perch behind a rafter, though I’m not sure what had captured his attention. His gaze was so intent that I don’t think he knew he himself was being watched. But I’m sure someone, somewhere, was watching me.

It turned out that several workshop attendees were arriving to Bangor International Airport at around the same time, so once everyone had collected the baggage, we all jumped into Rob’s van (the island caretaker, who came to pick us up) to head to Jonesport to then take the boat to the island.
Of course, since we were in Bangor, we had to drive by Stephen King’s house.
